WIC BUSINESS LUNCHEONS
JULY, 2005

WHAT'S ON FOR THE JULY WIC LUNCHEON!

WOMEN IN COMMUNICATION MEDIA ROUDTABLE # 5
“Why is it so hot in Southern Nevada?”

Come meet and mingle with Las Vegas’ favorite weathermen:
Kevin Jannison, Darren Peck,
Nathan Tannenbaum and Dana Wagner

They come into our homes every night --- telling us that tomorrow is going to be “Sunny and Hot, with a high of 110”. They tell us about “low pressure and high pressure”. They tell us it’s another “record high temperature, and to wear sunscreen.”

“They” are the primetime weathermen on Southern Nevada television. At our next Women in Communication luncheon, attendees will have a chance to meet Kevin Jannison from KLAS/tv8, Darren Peck from KVVU/Fox5, Nathan Tannenbaum from KTNV/tv13 and Dana Wagner from KVBC/tv3. It’s part of our next “Media Roundtable” to be held on July 14, 2005 at Maggiano’s in the Fashion Show. “Schmoozing” begins at 11:30am.

KEVIN JANNISON

Kevin is a native of Los Angeles, attending Fairfax High School and California State University-Northridge. He arrived at KLAS in 1994, after broadcasting jobs in Reno; Madison, Wisconsin; Evansville, Indiana; Jackson, Mississippi, and New York City. Kevin loves to volunteer his time, as he visits over 110 schools a year to give weather presentations, speak at DARE and regular graduations, and as a guest reader. Kevin is also the voice you hear when you dial “118” on your telephone. He has received many local and regional awards, including an Emmy Award for “Best Performance, News” in the Southwest region.

DARREN PECK

Darren is the “new kid on the block”. He is a graduate of California State University-Northridge, and prior to coming to Fox 5, worked as the Morning Weather Anchor for the Orange County News Channel in Southern California, where he was raised. Before that, he worked for KNAZ in Flagstaff, Arizona. Darren is very high in demand for speaking engagements, both in schools and for organizations, and consistently volunteers his time and talents. Darren is an avid hiker, and can always be found on one of the many hiking trails in Southern Nevada.

NATHAN TANNENBAUM

You can use radar and you can use satellites. However, viewers of KTNV/tv13 only trust one true weather instrument. The bow tie of Nathan Tannenbaum. Nate has been a Las Vegas weather personality since 1989, arriving here from Colorado. In the 15 years Southern Nevada has known Nate, he has been named “Best TV Weathercaster in the Review-Journal’s Best of Las Vegas” seven times, including a run of six in a row. Nate cannot say “no”, as he is a frequent guest at many charity events. He is also a radio personality, hosting “Playing Favorites”, Sunday evenings on KUNV 91.5. Nate says a perfect Sunday night is … “60 Minutes … Playing Favorites … Desperate Housewives”.

DANA WAGNER

Dana was born in the giant metropolis of Moses Lake, Washington, and moved to Los Angeles when he was 10. He moved back to Washington to attend Washington State University, where he earned a degree in Broadcast Communications. Prior to Las Vegas, Dana worked as a News Director at a radio station in Walla Walla, Washington, before working in Tri-Cities, and eventually Reno. That is where he met his future wife, Kim Capozzo, a reporter and Weekend Anchor at KVBC. In June, Dana and Kim became first-time parents of a healthy baby girl.

This is going to be the fun media event of the summer. Come ready to meet, mingle, and share stories with Kevin, Darren, Nate, and Dana. Reservations are needed by Tuesday, July 12th, as this promises to be a record-setting attendance for WIC. Bring the entire office! Bring your clients too!
