We all know DeAnne Sheehan from her tireless work as an Account Executive with Lotus Broadcasting, and one of the hardest working members in the history of Women in Communication.
At the October meeting of WIC, we celebrate the accomplishments of this incredible woman, as DeAnne will be our keynote speaker. The meeting will take place on Thursday, October 11, 2007 at Maggiano’s in the Fashion Show. Schmoozing begins at 11:30am
It was 20 years ago this month, that the 1st Annual Electronic Media Awards (EMAs) took place. This annual tradition was the brainchild of DeAnne. Over the past 19 years, not only have advertising professionals been awarded for their great work, but many students from UNLV and CSN have benefited from scholarships awarded by Women in Communication, including the a merit scholarship named after DeAnne.
She worked her way through Wayne State University as a Vocalist in bands in and around the Detroit area. She toured the Orient during Viet Nam entertaining troops on Military bases. DeAnne taught High School at Bishop Borgess in the 70’s and she coached her Forensics and Debate teams to National Championships. She taught at the Specs Howard School of Broadcasting, and later moved to Tucson, Arizona and began her career in radio sales.
DeAnne worked as a Sales Manager in Tucson for six years, before moving to Las Vegas in 1984 to work for Lotus. DeAnne became General Manager of Oldies 108 in 1988, and worked as a General Manager for three stations over the next five years. In 1994, DeAnne returned to Lotus Broadcasting in Sales.
DeAnne was awarded the Women of Distinction Award in 2003, the Chamber of Commerce Community Achievement Award in 2004, and has been named one of the 100 most influential women in Nevada over the past 100 years. She is a member of the Nevada Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
DeAnne was president of Women In Communications in 1983, 1988, 2000 and 2001, and has served on every board position over the years. She is also founder of The Advertising Community Talent Show, benefiting Safe Nest.
We are proud to call her one of our own. Come hear DeAnne Sheehan at the October Women in Communications Luncheon. This promises to be a sell-out event, so make your reservations early at 991-9991.
